  11.     Welcome to SuperSpeed! This speedy miniature car racing game delivers
  12.     pure action for up to four players.
  13.     Challenge your friends or compete against the computer's drivers.
  14.     Eventful tracks with all the obstacles you usually prefer not to find

  28.     This version of SuperSpeed is shareware. You can try out this program
  29.     as long as you like, and you may give it to your friends. It's free.
  30.     The Shareware Edition is a complete program that certainly will give
  31.     you hours of fun.
  32.     If so, you might want to read the bottom part of this text. You'll
  33.     discover how much SuperSpeed you can get for what little money!

  36.     Installation
  37.  
  38.     Copy all files from the disk to your hard drive. Use the INSTALL
  39.     program, the MS-Windows file manager or the MS-DOS COPY command.
  40.     No special setup is necessary. If you have a sound card installed,
  41.     SuperSpeed will detect it automatically.
  42.  
  43.     For users of MS-Windows, files SUPER.PIF and SUPER.ICO are included.
  44.     Use the mouse to drag SUPER.PIF from the file manager to any program
  45.     group in the program manager. Here, you might select SUPER.ICO as
  46.     icon for SuperSpeed.
  47.     Most users will have to start SuperSpeed from DOS, as Windows can slow
  48.     it down or make run quite stumblingly on most PCs.

  51.     The Game

  53.     Start "SUPER". After the title screen, you'll see the "PRESS BUTTON"-
  54.     screen, which will reappear before each track. Join the race with 
  55.     your fire button:

  57.        Player 1 (red car)             LEFT SHIFT KEY
  58.        Player 2 (yellow car)          RIGHT SHIFT KEY
  59.        Player 3 (green car)           JOYSTICK 1 BUTTON
  60.        Player 4 (blue car)            JOYSTICK 2 BUTTON

  62.     As soon as the helicopter leaves the screen, the next race track gets
  63.     displayed. Wait for the lights - ready - steady - go!
  64.  
  65.     Accelerate with your fire button.
  66.     Release it to brake.
  67.  
  68.     Your steering wheel looks a bit like:

  70.        red car                        Z left, X right
  71.        yellow car                     cursor left and cursor right
  72.                                       (numeric keyboard 4 and 6)
  73.        green/blue car                 joystick left and right.

  75.     On most tracks, four rounds have to be driven in one race. You'll see
  76.     your current number of laps any time you complete one.
  77.  
  78.     Aim of the game: reach the finish line before one of the computer's
  79.     drivers does. If you compete against three other human opponents, there
  80.     are no computer drivers; you'll have to beat a qualification time then.
  81.     It's like it always is - some guys get all the points, and some will
  82.     see a large "game over" again and again.
  83.     Don't panic, you may join in again as the next race track begins.

  85.     Race Tracks

  87.     The Shareware Edition includes three, the Deluxe Edition nine great
  88.     race tracks, every single one challenging the driver's skills in a
  89.     different way. Sometimes roads are wide and curves gentle, sometimes
  90.     you must fight arduosly for your way through narrow passages, and
  91.     getting out of a tunnel can become times trickier than entering one.

  93.     Extras
  94.  
  95.     You'll find a wrench or a 1000-points bonus on the track from time to
  96.     time. Collect four wrenches to enhance your car:
  97.  
  98.         ACCELERATION      get going faster
  99.         TRACTION          get around those curves at top speed, too
  100.         SPEED             higher top speed
  101.         +4000 Pts         in case you are satisfied with your "equipment"
  102.                           so far, take some points for your wrenches.
  103.  
  104.     The Bonus-FillUp level of the Deluxe Edition reveals a key sometimes. 
  105.     Collect this to open the gate to the gas station - a flashing bonus sign
  106.     is there. The driver getting there first receives a 1000 points bonus
  107.     and unlocks one of the three secret bonus races. All players compete 
  108.     in the bonus race after the current track.

  110.     Secret Bonus Race (Deluxe Edition only)

  112.     Reach the MEGA-WRENCH, before the countdown score runs down.
  113.     Be alert! Something seems unusual with these bonus tracks...

  115.     Obstacles
  116.  
  117.     So far, so good. And much too easy for you. So here are some nicely
  118.     unpleasant obstacles adding some flavor to the race:

  121.         puddles           water slows you down a bit, and sliding fun
  122.                           hides in oil patches, sand and ice
  123.  
  124.         cones             hit 'em hard, and they'll vanish
  125.     
  126.         whirlwind         minding it's own business, as long as you
  127.                           don't get close
  128.  
  129.         gates             closing regularly, opening, too, although
  130.                           you'll find that hard to admit.
  131.                           when open, they provide a nice shortcut
  132.  
  133.         skulls            oh-oh. Don't disturb the ghosts of ancient
  134.                           SuperSpeed heroes and their peaceful rest in
  135.                           highscore tables. don't, or they'll send
  136.                           Mr.BadGuy straight from hell
  137.                           hang on, wasn't there a smile some seconds ago?

  139.         blockers          oops, something's growing out of the street.
  140.                           ah, and it's going back. and comes. and goes.
  141.                           obviously can't decide - can you?

  144.     Highscores

  146.     SuperSpeed has two highscore tables. One holds the 30 best SuperSpeeders
  147.     of all time, the other keeps track records for each course.
  148.     Can you beat the existing times and scores ?
